After a short conversation with a sales person at a local hardware, I was taken back by his negative look on Christmas, an over marketed way of the rich getting richer, the poor being forgotten and a waste of time. For this man his Christmas spirit has been crushed by 1 or a few events in his life, where maybe he didn’t get his train set he wanted from Santa, or his mum or dad  had to work on Christmas.

In Santa clause 3 the ice man wanted to become Santa, he did everything evil in his power to become Santa, he kept hardening his heart to love, and to the real meaning of Christmas. Myself being a evangelical christian, Santa is a distant 2nd to Christ but in this example the more he tried to hate Santa the harder he became, SPOILER ALERT here, but in the end of the movie a sweet little girl, gave the ice man a hug, he asked, what is this feeling that has come over me, I feel like i am warming up, in front of a big crowd of other super heroes and made up figures, Love over came him and he felt the real meaning of Christmas. Love.

The bible says Love covers a multitude of sins and hurt, Christmas is yes very material filled, tables filled and tummies filled but in the context of things this is the way it should be. We must make the most of the time we have on this earth and Christmas is a very special time. Some people do it tough but that is where us who are mentally, physically and spiritually ok should be doing everything we can to warm the hearts of the hurt and the lonely.

My friend at the hardware should be finding ways of giving this Christmas, instead of worrying about how much money is going around. Maybe he need a smile a present and a good feed with loving caring people. Maybe he needs a hug, maybe he needs some Christmas magic.

After all isn’t this the real reason for the season, our heavenly father giving his son to a world that will end up killing him? To love the unlovely, the proud and the forgotten.

Lets love, lets give, lets make the best of Christmas 2017!
